- I grew up in Chicago in a big family, and have 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
- I live with my husband, and two dogs. We have five grown children. My children have interesting careers from radio to nursing. I have no artists, but they are all creative in their chosen professions!
- Hobbies: I love to travel and take in different cultural and archeological sites and museums. I share these new experiences with my students each year. I also like to paint when I can find the time in my busy schedule.
- I have enjoyed making art since I could hold a pencil, and now I love teaching art. My students always amaze me, and I look forward to the next thing they create!
Philosophy and Goals
Philosophy
Art naturally promotes self-esteem, and offers opportunities to students that are not available through other subjects alone. I believe that all students can be successful in art and my job is to provide a safe and inspirational environment for them to think and create like artists.
In art we learn about the past, present, future and our dreams. As children interact with art they develop life skills such as discipline- by sticking to the task, learn procedure- a sense of order, learn endurance-not giving up, learn resilience- overcoming their mistakes and most importantly, critical thinking- skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing. participating in an art program can help children gain a sense of accomplishment and confidence in themselves and their abilities, and set the foundation for a life long interest in the arts. My elementary school did not offer an art program, so I feel privileged to offer an engaging program to my students and know how important it is.
Goals
The River Trail Art curriculum aligns with the goals and standards of the Illinois Board of Education.
Applications of Learning
Through Applications of Learning, students demonstrate and deepen their understanding of basic knowledge and skills. These applied learning skills cross academic disciplines and reinforce the important learning of the disciplines. The ability to use these skills will greatly influence students' success in school, in the workplace and in the community.
