Kindergarten -
5th grade, The Starry Night, by Annie.
We have a lot of fun in Art! Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade have art once a week for 50 minutes. They learn the vocabulary of art, and make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes and materials. Art projects are presented within the context of art history and/or world culture. I try to help students keep their clothes clean by providing smocks for them to wear. As careful as we try to be, accidents will happen! For this reason, children should not wear their favorite or fanciest outfits on art day. Students do not have to bring any materials with them to class, except their iPads and a stylus if they like using them. As in the rest of the school, the art class expectations follow the PBIS behavior model: To Be Respectful, Responsible, Productive and Safe. student artwork is put on Artsonia. Artsonia is a website where each student at River Trail School has a virtual gallery of their artwork. The site is also very important because it allows the students to leave a written statement along with their art product. I have used it as a tool to integrate writing into the art curriculum. family and friends also have the opportunity to leave Comments and feedback on art projects. This gallery continues throughout grade school and high school. It has been a great way to communicate all the wonderful things that go on in the art room. www.artsonia.com. |
